TILI SAARU / TOOR DAL CURRY





Preparation:15 min, Cooking time: 30min, Yield: serves 3-4

METHOD


Wash the dal thoroughly in cold water, add 2 1/2 cups of water ,chopped tomatoes,turmeric and cook dal in pressure cooker for 3 whistles. once it is done allow  the pressure cooker to cool down completely,

Heat the cooking pot, add tamarind juice, marble size jaggery, salt and rasam powder/saarina pudi, green chillies,curry leaves and 1 1/2 cups of water, 
cook for about 5-7 min on medium heat
Add cooked toor dal,cook for 5min then add coconut milk and cook over medium heat for 5-10 min. or till aromatic.
       Then add seasoning of ghee, mustard seeds and cumin seeds.


   Garnish with cilantro and serve hot tili saaru with dallop of ghee on top of saaru
 with Rice.

TIPS:

Coconut milk is optional. It enhances the taste and flavour of tili saaru.
If tili saaru becomes thick you can add little more water to reach desired consistency.

Palak soppina akki rotti/Palak/spinach rice flour rotti
